NeuroEducational Evaluation TM

Adolescent student

What is a NeuroEducational Evaluation?

A NeuroEducational Evaluation is an assessment approach which uses a range of neuropsychological tests to investigate what neurological skills (or areas of the brain) are affecting the child or adolescent's learning.

It is more than just administering an intelligence test and some other basic cognitive tests as this approach tends to only measure about 10% of neurological skills. Instead a NeuroEducational Evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of the link between brain functioning and learning behaviour. We assess all relevant areas of the brain to determine the child's neurological weaknesses and strengths.

When an assessment investigates all the neurological skills related to learning then educational help becomes tailored to the child's unique neurological learning needs.

Typical referral reasons

  • "My child/adolescent has learning difficulties and I want an assessment to assist the school with making decisions about his/her learning"

Emotional & Behavioural Evaluation TM

What is an Emotional & Behavioural Evaluation?

An Emotional & Behavioural Evaluation at childpsych determines whether the child or adolescent's social and emotional behaviour is of concern. This results in a full report of the evaluation. As such it is a formal investigation of whether a social and emotional difficulty is present.

Typical referral reasons

  • "I do not require an assessment for learning difficulties but would like an assessment of my child/adolescent's emotional development because:
    • They might have a developmental difficulty such as Aspergers Disorder or an intellectual impairment
    • They might have a social and emotional disorder/difficulty such as depression or anxiety
    • They may be ascertainable under Education Queensland or Catholic Education guidelines
    • It would help in the development of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and/or Individual Support Plan (ISP) (if the child is in the care of the Department of Child Safety)
    • It would help the Department of Child Safety in it's placement decisions"
