Welcome to our Blog

Join us weekly, as we discuss all things psychology. Ranging from the foundations to the forefront of psychology, we will give you a brief but detailed look into the topics that make this field of allied health so valuable.

Our goal here at childpsych is to support the people of Brisbane in their pursuit for mental wellness. The team here consists of health, clinical and educational psychologists from all walks of life. As a diverse team, we all hold the same values, that being the pinnacle of support to our clients.

Each week we will be sharing our perspective on a topic in psychology that we believe to be relevant, controversial or a healthy habit. They will be written by all of the staff here and focus on a topic close to theirs or our clients values. To start the series, we would like to give you a brief explanation of what psychology is and our application of psychological theory.

What is psychology?

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind, specifically aspects that affect behaviour. It is a multifaceted discipline which revolves around a client-centred care approach. It is built upon key psychological theories like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or Conditioning. From these foundations, the field is evolving to support people as we move further from our classical ancestors. Recent forms of psychological support include the Positive Parenting Program (PPP) or Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Each differ significantly but all play a role in improving your health and wellbeing.

Psychology strives to explain, predict and improve human behaviour by understanding how people feel, behave or think. Although different professionals will approach therapy in different ways, they all share an overarching goal: to help people be more than who they are.

How do we fit in?

We put ourselves at the core of all psychological approaches and strive to help you on the journey to being more than who you are and to support your children through their journey of life.

We look forward to going on this journey with you, both within the therapy room and on this blog.

If you are interested in discussing any of the points further or would like to hear about a particular topic, we would be more than happy to hear from you. Feel free to send an email to admin@childpsych.net.au and we will answer any questions you may have.
